Today’s publication of A-level results marks the fifth year in a row that the number of students taking Religious Studies A-level has risen, with an increase of 5.9 per cent since 2007.
More than 20,100 students will today open results envelopes for Religious Studies A-Level, and 81 per cent of them will be celebrating achieving a A-C grade (against 82 per cent in 2007).
Speaking today, Nick McKemey, the Church of England’s Head of School Improvement, said: “Religious Studies’ continued increase in numbers of entrants demonstrates that students appreciate the importance of faith in today’s society.
“These figures present a significant challenge to those who would present modern society as wholly secular. Young people are choosing to study subjects which show that faith is a vital force, both in their own lives and in developing a fuller understanding of the wider world.”
The Church of England has posted a selection of prayers on its website for those receiving exam results this summer and considering their future options, available at: www.cofe.anglican.org/prayers.
