ANGLICAN COMMUNION: UPDATE
The Archbishop of Canterbury made a presentation, including a video about the recent meeting of the Anglican Communion Council in Jamaica, and answered questions.
LEGISLATIVE BUSINESS
DRAFT ECCLESIASTICAL FEES (AMENDMENT) MEASURE (GS 1715A)
Synod having voted to take note of the Report by the Revision Committee on the Draft Ecclesiastical Fees (Amendment) Measure (GS 1715A) and begun to consider the draft Measure clause by clause on Saturday, consideration of the draft Measure was completed.
CHURCH OF ENGLAND FUNDED PENSIONS SCHEME (ADDITIONAL LUMP SUM) (AMENDMENT) RULES 2009 (GS 1749), CHURCH OF ENGLAND PENSIONS (LUMP SUM PAYMENTS) (AMENDMENT) RULES 2009 (GS 1750), CHURCH OF ENGLAND PENSIONS (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS 2009 (GS 1751), CHURCH OF ENGLAND FUNDED PENSIONS SCHEME (REVALUATION) (AMENDMENT) RULES 2009 (GS 1753), AND CHURCH OF ENGLAND FUNDED PENSIONS SCHEME (EXCLUSION OF INELIGIBLE PERSONS) (AMENDMENT RULES) 2009 (GS 1754)
Following debate, the Draft Instruments were approved.
ECCLESIASTICAL OFFICES (TERMS OF SERVICE) REGULATIONS 2009 (GS 1726)
Following debate, the Ecclesiastical Offices (Terms of Service) Regulations 2009 were approved.
THE CHURCH REPRESENTATION RULES (AMENDMENT) RESOLUTION 2009 (GS 1738)
Following debate and amendment to leave out paragraph 6, the Church Representation Rules (Amendment) Resolution 2009 was approved by a greater than two-thirds majority in each House of the Synod -
Bishops 24 ayes, 0 noes, 0 abstentions;
Clergy 119 ayes, 2 noes, 0 abstentions;
Laity 130 ayes, 5 noes, 3 abstentions.
THE CLERGY REPRESENTATION RULES (AMENDMENT) RESOLUTION 2009 (GS 1739) was not moved.
CLERGY DISCIPLINE MEASURE (GS 1747A and B)
Following debate, the Revd Preb David Houlding (London) moved the following amended motion on behalf of the London Diocesan Synod:
'That this Synod whilst recognizing the need for discipline in the exercise of ordained ministry
(a) note the concerns that exist about aspects of the Clergy Discipline Measure 2003 (especially as regards the perceived pastoral implications of the Code of Practice made under it);
(b) welcome the response by the Clergy Discipline Commission to its conclusion on aspects of the Measure (ciruclated as GS 1747B); and
(c) invite the Archbishops' Council to seek a report from the Commission before the end of the quinquennium on whether there is a case for bringing forward, early in the lifetime of the next Synod, draft legislation to amend the Measure or amendments to the Code of Practice.'
The motion was carried.

The Archbishop of Canterbury gave farewell tributes to the Rt Revd John Gladwin, Bishop of Chelmsford; the Rt Revd Kenneth Stevenson, Bishop of Portsmouth; the Rt Revd Stephen Venner, Bishop of Dover; the Rt Revd Michael Nazir-Ali, Bishop of Rochester; the Rt Revd Anthony Russell, Bishop of Ely; Sheila Cameron, Dean of the Arches.
