APPOINTMENTS TO THE ARCHBISHOPS’ COUNCIL AND THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND PENSIONS BOARD (GS 1658)
The Archbishop of York moved the following, each of which were carrried:
‘That this Synod approve the appointment of Mr Allan Bridgewater as Chair of the Church of England Pensions Board from 1 January 2008 until 31 December 2008.’
‘That this Synod approve the appointment of Mr Andrew Britton as a member of the Archbishops' Council for a five-year term from 1 October 2007 until 30 September 2012.’
‘That this Synod approve the appointment of Mrs Katherine McPherson as a member of the Archbishops' Council from 1 January 2008 until 31 December 2009.’
‘That this Synod approve the appointment of Mrs Anne Sloman as a member of the Archbishops' Council from 1 January 2008 until 31 December 2009.’
CLERGY PENSIONS (GS 1660)
Following debate, Synod carried the following amended motion, moved by the Bishop of Ripon and Leeds:
'That this Synod
(a) endorse the recommendations contained in paragraph 52 of GS 1660;
(b) request the Archbishops' Council, in the event that the pensions climate improves sufficiently, to bring forward recommendations to this Synod, after consultation with the Pensions Board, and the Church Commissioners, with a view to restoring pension levels.'
CHURCH OF ENGLAND FUNDED PENSIONS SCHEME (GENERAL) (AMENDMENT) RULES 2007 (GS1667)
Synod approved the Scheme.
CHURCH OF ENGLAND FUNDED PENSIONS SCHEME (ACCRUAL RATES) (AMENDMENT) RULES 2007 (GS 1670)
Synod approved the Scheme.
CHURCH OF ENGLAND FUNDED PENSIONS SCHEME (GUARANTEED INCREASES) (AMENDMENT) RULES 2007 (GS 1671)
Synod approved the Scheme.
PRIVATE MEMBER’S MOTION: POSSIBLE MILITARY ACTION AGAINST IRAN (GS Misc 855A & B)
The Revd Canon Simon Bessant moved the motion; Synod voted to move to next business, following a division by Houses.
FORTY-FIRST REPORT OF THE STANDING ORDERS COMMITTEE (GS 1664)
Following debate, Synod took note of the report.
PRE-LAMBETH CONFERENCE 2008 HOSPITALITY
A presentation was given by Mr Stephen Lyon (Partnership Secretary, Partnership for World Mission).
TRANSFORMING WORSHIP: Report by the Liturgical Commission (GS 1651)
Following a presentation and debate, Synod carried the following motion moved by the Bishop of Wakefield:
‘That this Synod
(a) affirm that the worship of God is the fundamental purpose of the Church, crucial for transformation and mission;
(b) welcome the Liturgical Commission's 'Transforming Worship' initiative for liturgical formation and training; and
(c) commend the Commission's Report Transforming Worship: Living the New Creation (GS 1651) to the Church of England for study, reflection and action.’
