APPOINTED MEMBERS OF THE ARCHBISHOPS’ COUNCIL (GS 1633)

The Archbishop of Canterbury moved:

9.      ‘That this Synod approve the recommendations contained in paragraph 11 of GS 1633.’

The motion was carried.

LEGISLATIVE BUSINESS

Item 502, the Church Accounting Regulations 2006, was debated.

The Regulations were approved.

WOMEN IN THE EPISCOPATE

The Archbishop of York moved:

10.       ‘That this Synod welcome and affirm the view of the majority of the House of Bishops that admitting women to the episcopate in the Church of England is consonant with the faith of the Church as the Church of England has received it and would be a proper development in proclaiming afresh in this generation the grace and truth of Christ.’

The motion was carried after a division by houses:

Bishops For 31; Against 9

Clergy For 134; Against 42

Laity For 123; Against 68
