The General Synod's July Group of Sessions began at 4pm, at the University of York's Heslington campus.
The Archbishop of York led opening prayers, including prayers for all those affected by the London bombings, the first anniversary of which is today.

REPORT BY THE BUSINESS COMMITTEE
The Chair of the Business Committee (Preb Kay Garlick) moved the committee's report.
After debate, the Synod voted to take note of the report.
PUSHING FURTHER: REPORT BY THE BOARD OF EDUCATION (GS 1628)
The Bishop of Dover moved:
5. ‘That this Synod:
(a) re-affirm the Church of England’s commitment to provide chaplaincy and support for students’ spiritual and moral development in the Further Education sector;
(b) commend the report Pushing Further: From Strategy to Action for study and action in dioceses and deaneries, wherever possible in partnership with ecumenical and inter-faith partners, with government and the Learning and Skills Council;
(c) endorse the growth strategy set out in Pushing Further, and the specific proposals for action in Pushing Further: From Strategy to Action;
(d) instruct the Board of Education to take forward the Action Programme, and report back to General Synod on progress before the end of the current quinquennium.’
After debate, Synod voted overwhelmingly to carry the motion.
ADDRESS TO THE SYNOD
The Archbishop of Canterbury addressed the Synod with a brief update on the current situation in the Anglican Communion.
