The primary focus of this handbook is the Diocesan Directors of Ordinands, but we hope that it will be a useful resource to all those in the business of discerning vocation, selecting and training men and women for ordained and accredited lay ministry in the Church of England.
The handbook is designed to be a specific help with regard to the national selection process, including the way the national process relates to diocesan procedures and initial training. What is contained here is an expansion of the Bishops’ Regulations for Training, a sharing of good practice, and advice on a range of issues to do with selection and training.
Each section of the DDO Handbook has its own list of appendices and resources. These are in addition to the following policy papers:
i) Criteria for Selection in the Church of England (Ordained and Accredited Lay Ministry) Ministry Division, 2005.
ii) Regulations for Non-stipendiary Ministry, ABM Policy Paper No. 5, 1994.
iii) Advisers’ Handbook, Ministry Division, 2005.
iv) Ministry in the Church of England. A Guide to Selection and Training for Priesthood, Diaconate and Accredited Lay Ministry in the Church of England (leaflet).
v) Preparing for a Bishops’ Advisory Panel (booklet), Ministry Division, 2005.
All the publications and leaflets listed in the resource sections of this handbook are available from Church House Bookshop.
