A pacy, documentary-style DVD exploring the new ways of doing and being church that have become known as ‘fresh expressions’ has been launched.
In expressions: the dvd, presenter Diane Louise Jordan goes behind the scenes of 14 new initiatives whose aim is to connect with those who are often untouched by the Church. From a skater church, to a church in a coffee shop, a ‘messy’ church to one that ministers to clubbers, the Songs of Praise host was impressed by what she found. “This film offers plenty to be encouraged by and reveals a real sense that Fresh Expressions are on the brink of something incredibly exciting,” she said.
More than 1,500 copies of the DVD were sold within days of its publication. Dr Steven Croft, who heads up the Fresh Expressions initiative on behalf of the Archbishops of Canterbury and York, said that he was extremely encouraged by the early sales. “The figures are exceptional, really encouraging.”
Fresh Expressions is aimed at encouraging new ways of being church in a changing culture, and is backed by the Methodist Church and the Church of England.
