A new resource offers guidance on the options available for clergy planning to embark into the housing market as part of their longer term retirement plans.
The Church of England Pensions Board has, in conjunction with the Archbishops' Council, compiled 'Providing for housing in retirement' as a starting point for information on a range of buy-to-let products incorporating special features designed with clergy in mind. This is the first time that information on the services provided by the Pensions Board through its Church's Housing Assistance for the Retired Ministry (CHARM) scheme, and those run by selected external providers, have been collected together in one pamphlet.
Shaun Farrell, Chief Executive of the Pensions Board, says that the move is designed to help a wide range of clergy: "Our hope is that this resource will help enable those close to retirement to consider their options, whilst alerting those somewhat further from retirement to some of the opportunities on offer when entering the housing market at an early stage in their ministry." Copies of the pamphlet were sent to all clergy and every diocese in August. Further copies are available on request from the Church of England Pensions Board, 29 Great Smith Street, London SW1P 3PS.
