Gracey Court Supported Housing Complex

Image of Gracey Court Supported Housing Complex

Gracey Court is the Board's purpose-designed Supported Housing Complex situated in the village of Broadclyst in Devon, about six miles from the cathedral city of Exeter. The complex, which opened in 1993, has been designed to provide the highest quality accommodation in a warm, friendly and peaceful environment. It is set in extensive gardens with views over the Devon countryside.

Accommodation for 37 residents is provided in self-contained flats, each with patio or balcony. There are 7 flats for married couples and 23 for the single or widowed pensioner. As in all the Board's supported housing complexes, each flat at Gracey Court has a lounge with en-suite kitchenette facilities, together with a bedroom and bathroom with shower. Lifts provide access to the accommodation on the upper floors. The flats are centrally heated and double glazed and there is weekly support for those who need help to clean their accommodation. A laundry room is provided for personal washing.

As the accommodation is unfurnished, residents are expected to bring their own furniture for the flat to make the surroundings as familiar and comfortable as possible.

In addition to their own, private accommodation, residents have the benefit of communal facilities such as the spacious dining room overlooking the village green. Three main meals a day are served with a choice of daily menu. Special dietary needs can be catered for. Various activities take place on a regular basis, including a weekly singing group and exercise classes.

Gracey Court has a resident Manager, Deputy Manager and Assistant Manager and is adequately staffed to ensure that the needs and welfare of all the residents are met at all times. Each flat is also fitted with a care-call system for any emergencies that may arise, day or night.

As in all the Board's supported housing complexes Gracey Court has a chapel where regular services are held. For those wishing to join a local congregation a warm welcome is extended from several local parishes, including the parish church of St John, a five-minute walk away in the village.

The attractive and friendly village of Broadclyst is a short walk from Gracey Court. The village hall is a focal point and offers a number of activities including amateur dramatics. There is also a sports hall hosting a variety of leisure activities. A popular bowling club is situated opposite the complex and always welcomes new players. Broadclyst has a surgery and pharmacy, a Post Office, hairdressers and a restaurant. There is a very good bus service from the village and, in addition, the free 'Ring & Ride' services calls weekly at Gracey Court to take passengers into Exeter.

Gracey Court is situated on the edge of the Killerton Estate, a National Trust property, which is open to the public. There are also pleasant walks in the nearby Ashclyst Forest. Monthly outings are arranged by the residents and include trips to Dartmoor or the attractive resorts of Budleigh Salterton and Exmouth. Trips are also arranged throughout the year to the Northcott Theatre in Exeter.
