Fosbrooke House Supported Housing Complex

There has been a Pensions Board home at Fosbrooke House for more than 50 years. The original house was named after the Venerable H. L. Fosbrooke, Archdeacon of Lancaster, a member of the Board and, for a short time, its Chairman.

In 2004 the House was rebuilt with accommodation especially designed to meet the needs of older people, while at the same time maintaining the Italianate design of the original house and gardens. It now appears as two interlinked villas with 31 flats on four floors. All flats have extensive views over the wide Ribble Estuary which is famed for its sunsets. On a clear day the distant mountains of North Wales can be seen.

As in all the Board's supported housing complexes, each flat at Fosbrooke House has a lounge with en-suite kitchenette facilities, together with a bedroom and bathroom with shower. Lifts provide access to the accommodation on the upper floors. The flats are centrally heated and double glazed and there is weekly support for those who need help to clean their accommodation. A laundry room is provided for personal washing. As the accommodation is unfurnished, residents are expected to bring their own furniture for the flat to make the surroundings as familiar and comfortable as possible.

Three main meals a day are served with a choice of daily menu. Special dietary needs can be catered for.

Spacious Dining Hall overlooks the gardens

Fosbrooke House has a resident Manager, Deputy Manager and Assistant Manager and is adequately staffed to ensure that the needs and welfare of all the residents is met at all times. Each flat is also fitted with a care-call system for any emergencies that may arise, day or night.

For those wishing to join a local congregation a warm welcome is extended from several local parishes, including the nineteenth-century Grade II listed parish church of St Cuthbert in Lytham where there has been a church since 1195.

Community worship always available in the chapel

With the privacy of individual flats residents also enjoy community life at Fosbrooke House and the main seating areas overlook the sunken gardens.

These have been designed to appear as they were in Victorian times and as a result of their unique microclimate, flowers and produce can be grown all year round.

Year round interest can be found in the extensive gardens

Board and card games and quiz evenings are organised, together with talks by outside speakers and day trips to local beauty spots. There is direct access from the gardens to scenic walks along the estuary where many species of sea birds gather throughout the year. There is a good beach at St Anne's and of course a few miles to the north is the famous resort of Blackpool.

Shops and other services can be found at Lytham which has a theatre, bowling greens and a boating lake. A weekly market is held at Lytham on Saturdays. During the summer months there are 'Continental' markets with visiting traders and produce from France and Holland. Staff are able to assist with shopping trips to Lytham or can organise shopping for the less able.
