Office Services Department

The respective office services functions of the Central Board of Finance and the Church Commissioners merged immediately after the creation of the Archbishops’ Council in 1999 and became part of the Central Services Division of the new body.

The department , which reports through the Head of IT & Offices Services, operates from bases in Church House and 1,Millbank with a total staff of 15, of which some can boast long and loyal service and offer valuable knowledge and experience whereas others have just arrived and are bringing fresh insight.

The main objective of the department is to ensure the smooth running of both offices and at each site this means amongst other things the purchase and supply of everyday items of desktop and larger office equipment (including IT accessories but not PCs or printers) and other stationery lines, and keeping and controlling stocks of popular items. Substantial discounts are obtained on most supplies and consultation is in progress to find a way to share this benefit with the wider Church.

At Church House the department also takes bookings for and services the corporate internal meetings rooms, arranges parking in the limited number of spaces available and keeps all the NCI staff and reference directories up to date. It acts as co-ordinator for the Council’s staff with regard to fault reporting and discusses other facilities management issues with the Corporation as landlords.

At 1,Millbank, Office Services also manages Reception, the switchboard, security and the messenger/post service, cleaning and hygiene services and the client’s responsibilities regarding the running of the staff restaurant.

The NCI-wide telephone system, central photocopying services, site health and safety (including fire and first aid), messenger services between buildings and insurance are also all managed by Office Services.
