IT department

The department was established as part of the Church Commissioners in 1967 and transferred to the Archbishops' Council in 2000. It provides information technology and communications services to all the NCIs, and also gives advice to other church bodies such as dioceses and bishops' offices.

The department possesses a development section, responsible for the in-house systems and tailoring third party packages, and a technical support section, which maintains such things as Help Desk functions, e-mail, the internal network, security, business continuity and the oversight and support of the third party packages.

Main in-house systems are run on a mixture of UNIX and Microsoft Windows platforms.

All systems, both in-house and third party provided, are delivered to the desk-top using Terminal Services and Citrix ® and the department is responsible for maintaining upwards of 40 servers and 500 desk-top workstations.

The department also has a full-time I.T. trainer, training both internally and externally, in collaboration with the Communication training function.
