Communications Office

Communications is central to the mission of the Church.  The Communications Office serves the Church at every level, seeking to convey a full and accurate representation of the vibrant life of the Church, and its vital role at the heart of society.

The Office serves all the National Church Institutions and the House of Bishops, works closely with Lambeth Palace and Bishopthorpe, and supports the activities of diocesan communicators around the country.

Staff of the Office work closely with all sections of the media, assisting them in their coverage of the Church and providing a 24-hour media response service throughout the year.  The Office is also the focus for the Church's role in public discussions involving broadcasting policy, including liaison with the BBC, commercial broadcasters, and various government bodies, and presents information to Parliament and other audiences on issues of concern, such as the VAT rates levied on repairs to ecclesiastical buildings.

The Office runs a range of popular training courses encouraging Church members to undertake best practice in working with the media, and to use professional communications methods.  Please see: www.commstraining.cofe.anglican.org.  The Office is also developing ways of improving communications within the Church.

The Church of England's website, www.cofe.anglican.org is a highly accessible tool for acquiring information about the Church. Feedback and questions received via the site are welcomed.  The site is designed to answer questions from the general to the highly specific. The section on Common Worship provides a wealth of information about the new liturgy for users all over the country.  There is a substantial links section to other sites of interest.
